NYC Pride Week: An Explosion Before The March

This year’s LGBTQ Pride celebration in New York City is the biggest such event in history, marking the fiftieth anniversary of the Stonewall Rebellion that began the modern LGBTQ-rights movement. Everything going on is bigger, louder, and more fabulous than ever before. Fittingly, that includes a special two-day extravaganza at the Producers Club in the heart of Manhattan’s famed Theater District. Appropriately named NYC Entertainers: Pride Explosion, this official World Pride event has something for everybody. Scheduled for the nights of June 28 and 29 starting at 11 PM, this pre-Pride March diversion is chock-full of luminaries from the LGBTQ community, gathered together in a celebration of an important milestone in our history.

This cavalcade of stars includes Village People icon Randy Jones (I can’t imagine Pride without at least one of the Village People), stage and film star Tym Moss, who is, personally, everywhere during Pride Month. He performed at Queens Pride, Brooklyn Pride, hosts the1 Bronx Pride Rally (tomorrow!), and My Brothers House LGBTQ Veterans Pride. Oh, and FDNY Pride? That was Tym, too. Michael Musto, the legendary Village Voice columnist, will be on deck, as will uproariously funny comedian Ike Avelli, whose 50 Shades Of Gay tour is scorching ears from coast to coast. Sucia of Hell’s Kitchen note will host an all-night Drag Stage, and be on the lookout for Yuhua Hamasaki of RuPaul’s Drag Race fame, and nightlife impresario Frankie Allday, plus vocalists Coby Koehl and Riqi Velez, whose gifted voices will uplift one and all. There’s drag-queen couple Shay D’ Pines and Angel Elektra (yes, a drag queen couple! That’s too cute). DJ Ian Ford keeps the music pumping, and don’t miss the meet-and greets with personalities from UBC TV and Comedy Sex Show. Keep an eye out, because more names are still being added to this who’s who of notable performers.

The show, produced by Tym Moss, Michael D’Antoni, and Chaos, in conjunction with UBC TV Network and Comedy Sex Show, spans three theaters, several floors, and includes go-go boys (yum!), porn stars (yum yum!) a play room after 1 AM (hunny!) and all kinds of naughtiness, comedy, and pride. The whole thing reminds me of the days when I would hang out on Christopher Street all night, getting into whatever parties, voguing contests, or derring-do was going on. Pride Explosion has that same exuberant, devil-may-care energy, and it’s the perfect run-up to the March on June 30. You can get your tickets right here, and sashay away to make the night explode!
