Fashion is so closely identified in modern popular culture with the :GBTQ community, that highlighting its great gay designers seems almost an afterthought. From legends like Gianni Versace and Giorgio Armani to modern trendsetters like Telfar Clemens, there’s one more name that must be added to any pantheon of great fashion icons. That’s Marco Hall, a Black, gay, self-taught clothier who has been bringing forth genuine magic from his gifted mind and hands. From a small, but fabulous boutique called MH302 in Newark, New Jersey, Marco is spinning dreams as quickly as his spirit can call them forth. “I create with my feelings,” Marco told Inspire Live! Last month, “and that’s what guides me.”

In fact, you’ve probably seen examples of his work, because superstars of film, TV, and stage have clamored for MH302 originals. Supermodel Jennifer Williams bedazzled the 2015 Oscars Red Carpet in a stunning golden frill dress, Rihanna brought the house down in an unforgettable evening number, and the incomparable Natalie Cole rocked MH302 before a global audience, and even Vanessa Williams recently stopped by to pick up a dress and enjoy a drink with the journeyman fashionista.

Through it all, Marco has maintained an unassuming good grace about his work. “I want people to be happy when I wear my clothes,” the designer says, “because that makes me happy.” Marco admits to a lifelong love of fashion; he began sewing at an early age. Although Marco never underwent formal training, his work is of such a quality that it has been included in the storied Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) curriculum. His works have appeared on Sex And The City and in the historic Newark Museum Of Art, during the pandemic as a virtual fashion exhibit.

Just as Michelaagelo was able to look at a block of marble and see the sculpture within, Marco’s keen eye can see the dress emerge from a bolt of fabric, before one stitch of thread has been completed, or a single cut made. Marco makes exquisite garments for both men and women, with a fit and finish that rival the best of anything Paris or Milan can offer. Discover what a statement you can make with a Marco Hall original today, by visiting his website or the actual boutique, located at 29 Halsey Street in Newark, NJ., near the Washington Park station of the city’s Light Rail system. Get yourself a great new look for Pride month, and all through the rest of the year!
