For the past nine years, Broadway Sings For Pride has been a celebration of LGBTQ+ people in New York theater, highlighting their innumerable contributions to the arts on stage, television, prose, and film. Broadway Sings For Pride is a nonprofit dedicated to raising awareness about the LGBTQ community and its issues, through the presentation of top-tier entertainment. An annual benefit concert during Pride Month brings out a plethora of LGBTQ+ performers, which in past years included film star and cabaret impresario Tym Moss, reality TV mogul Andy Cohen, Broadway diva Frenchie Davis, and Emmy/Grammy/Tony award-winner Neil Patrick Harris. Over the years, BSFP has come to be known as the signature LGBTQ+ theater Pride event in New York City.

Today, however, we are faced with a vastly different living environment. The dual plagues of COVID-19 and ongoing civil unrest following the police killing of George Floyd on Memorial Day, have caused all in-person Pride marches and events to be postponed or cancelled, and so BSFP is going virtual tomorrow as part of Westchester Pride at the LOFT, with an eye towards a possible full-fledged show later this year, according to founder Neal Bennington. “I wanted us to be seen in a meaningful way,” Bennington says, “so doing a few mini Prides is awesome.” The virtual show, which starts at 11:30 AM on Zoom and Facebook Live, features Tamar Greene, who plays George Washington in the smash hit Hamilton musical, On Your Feet! and Rent actress Karmine Alers, and international stage actor Adam Shapiro, known for his performances as the Rabbi in Fiddler On The Roof.

Broadway Sings For Pride will also make virtual appearances during Pride On The Beach (June 14), Morris County Pride (June 17), and Queer Women Of Pride’s virtual music event (June 28). Even in the year without Prides, the show still goes on at Broadway Sings For Pride!
